“Transition: Taiwanese Women on the Move” opened today at the National Museum of Taiwan History in Tainan. It runs until 30 August 2026 in the 1st Special Exhibition Room, on the fourth floor of the Exhibition and Education Building.

The exhibition is laid out as an airport. Visitors choose a domestic or an international line and pass through nine gates into the lives of sixteen women, among them the painter Chen Chin and the track athlete Chi Cheng.

Luxmin worked with the museum and Opener Creative Design on the four digital works in the show, and on the projection, sensing and touch systems that run them.

The four works

  • The Narrative Feature (animation). One long film that gathers the sixteen stories into a single line. It is where a visitor starts.
  • The Transit Horizon (ambient animation). Projected behind the large exhibits: silhouettes and passing crowds that give the room the bustle of a terminal.
  • The Suitcase of Destiny (motion interaction). Your silhouette is drawn in flowing text. You catch suitcases made of words and choose a path: Spiritual Enrichment, World Exploration, Life Evolution or Mindful Rest.
  • The Map of Courage (touch interaction). A quiet map on a large touchscreen. Follow the places these women travelled to, and open the stories and archive records behind them.

What we took from it

In a history exhibition, technology should not compete with the objects. We treated the installations as a mirror. The interaction is there so that a visitor today can stand where these women stood a hundred years ago.
